This review is an updated version of my previous one, as some of my opinions have changed over time. I ordered the Foam + FR4 Plate Combo and would like to share my thoughts on each item individually:
1. Poron plate foam – Excellent. Thick enough and feels high quality.
2. FR4 plate – High quality, but has compatibility issues with stabilizers on ISO boards.
3. PET film for switches and PCB – Decent, though not essential. I used it under my stabilizers, but it can be left out.
4. IXPE switch foam (optional, performance may vary) – Excellent.
5. 2 layers of PET tape – Did not like it. One layer was misaligned, causing extra plastic noise. (In general, I’m not a big fan of plastic in keyboard mods.)
6. Gasket foam – Decent, though difficult to position correctly without instructions.
7. Noise dampening foam – Too thin, which unfortunately reduces most of the “thocky” typing sound. (Keep reading to see how I fixed this.)
Positives:
The poron plate foam is genuinely good quality and thick enough to make a difference. The IXPE switch foam was another highlight—it not only helps with noise reduction but also gives the PCB a clean, full-black look that I really liked.
I also want to note that after my first review, the Co-Founder of the company personally reached out to discuss my concerns. I really appreciated this openness to feedback, and it’s nice to know they’re considering possible design changes in the future.
Negatives:
The biggest drawback for me was that the ISO FR4 plate is not compatible with PCB clip-in or screw-in stabilizers. This means many high-end stabilizer options (like Durock, Staebies, and TX-AP) can’t be used out of the box. I fixed this by using a wire saw to enlarge the holes, but I can understand that not everyone will want—or be able—to go that far.
I also didn’t like the PET tape. The misaligned bottom layer rubbed against the top plastic, creating extra noise with every keypress. I ended up leaving it out entirely.
Finally, the noise dampening foam is too thin, which significantly reduces the thocky typing feel. Another issue is the lack of clear instructions. I had to look up a tutorial from the YouTuber jerrorr, but even then, I’m not sure if the method shown is the “correct” order.
My Setup (for a better, thockier sound)
Here’s the layering I found worked best:
• FR4 plate
• Poron plate foam
• IXPE switch foam
• PET film (only under PCB-mounted stabilizers)
• PCB
• Toronto noise dampening foam
• Wooting sandwich noise dampening foam
Final Verdict:
Would I recommend the Foam + FR4 Combo? Yes, but with caveats. If you’re passionate about modding your Wooting 80HE to the maximum and don’t mind the extra effort (and cost), then this combo can absolutely be an upgrade. However, it does require some tinkering to get the best results.
One last note: Toronto Keyboardman is currently the only 3rd-party provider of custom plates for the Wooting 80HE, which is one of their biggest advantages right now.

Great customer service
I received the white gold FR4 plate in perfect condition, and it modified the acoustics of the board just the way I wanted. It arrived without the screws/standoffs, but the team was fast to respond and send over the screws. No complicated returning or reordering. Just mailed me the missing stuff.

The plate and foam kit are great- really transformed the keyboard’s sound signature for the better. Also shout out to their customer service- I was initially accidentally sent the wrong plate, but they promptly re-sent the correct one the next business day.
