HMX Yogurt Review

A new contender enters the ring. Can it stand against the titans?

Introduction

What’s up y’all. Today, we’re taking a look at the HMX Yogurt switches, a collaboration between XLLAB and HMX. These linear switches are a brand new contender, and we wanted to see if it lives up to HMX’s flawless record. With a new stem and bottom housing mold, paired with a unique P5 material that packs in 40-45% fiberglass, these switches are designed to turn heads—and ears. Let’s take a look…

Design & Features

The HMX Yogurt switch is a blend of innovative materials and precise engineering. The P5 bottom housing, a modified nylon mix with a hefty dose of fiberglass, is a game-changer. It amplifies the sound profile, making it loud, lively, and clacky, while retaining that full-bodied tone we’ve come to expect from HMX. In particular, I noticed the biggest difference in the bottom-out sound. It was a LOT more crisp and pronounced, but that might just be me!

With the classic HMX smoothness, minimal stem wobble, and a short travel distance, these switches cater to those who prefer precision and efficiency in their typing or gaming setups.

Performance

I popped these switches into my Neo65 and immediately noticed their unique characteristics. The short travel distance at 3.4mm is a nice touch for those who enjoy long-poles. The switches are buttery smooth, thanks to the meticulous factory lubing. And the stem wobble? Non-existent, as expected from HMX.

In terms of sound, the Yogurt is all about that clack. It’s not the absolute clackiest switch I’ve used, but it’s pretty dang close—reminiscent of some older HMX offerings. The fiberglass blend in the bottom housing contributes to a loud and full sound profile that’s bound to turn heads (or annoy your coworkers).

Being able to choose between different bottom-out forces ensures that you can strike the perfect balance between being light enough for extended typing sessions and firm enough to avoid accidental presses.
